Petnet Picks Up $3.75M More
Los Angeles-based automated pet feeder developer Petnet has raised $3.75M more in funding, as part of an ongoing, $6.5M funding round, according to a regulatory filing by the firm today. Details on the funding have not yet been announced by the company. Petnet has previously raised $10M in a Series A funding from Petco and others. Smith Micro Raises $5.5M In Private Placement
Aliso Viejo-based software maker Smith Micro Software, which is publicly traded on the NASDAQ as SMSI, says it has raised $5.5M in a private placement. The investors in the private placement wre not announced. Smith Micro said the it issued 5,500 shares of a newly designated, Series B 10% convertible preferred stock at $1,000 per share in the funding. Hyperloop One Dreams Reach Missouri
The dream of being one of the first cities in the world to have a high-speed, Hyperloop system has just reached Missouri, as Missouri Department of Transportation (MODOT), the St. Louis Regional Chamber, the KC Tech Council, the University of Missouri System, and the Missouri Innovation Center in Columbia said on Tuesday that they are looking to create a public-private partnership with Los Angeles-based Hyperloop One. ServiceNow Acquires Telepathy
Enterprise software developer ServiceNow has acquired San Diego-based Telepathy, a developer of software used in the user interface and experience area, according to the two. Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced. Telepathy was founded by Chuck Longanecker in 2001. ServiceNow was founded in San Diego, but is now based in Santa Clara.

Velocify Now Part Of Ellie Mae
Los Angeles-based Velocify, the developer of lead management software, is now officially part of Ellie Mae, Ellie Mae said late Monday afternoon. Ellie Mae paid $128M for Velocify. Ellie Mae said the acquisition will help in its efforts to deliver digital mortgage capabilities, and that it will integrate Velocify's lead management, engagement and distribution capabilities within its Encompass CRM tool. Insitu Deploys UAVs For Wildfire Mapping In Oregon
Unmanned aerial systems maker Insitu, which has its Commercial Division based in Costa Mesa, said today that it successfully deployed its Insitu ScanEagle as part of the response to Oregon's Eagle Creek wildfire. Ticketmaster Takes Aim At Scalpers Using Ticket Bots
Los Angeles-based Ticketmaster has filed a lawsuit against a number of companies it says have been using "bots" to snatch up tickets from its website before consumers have a chance at them. The lawsuit, Ticketmaster L.L.C. v. Prestige Entertainment. Sonnen Plans Battery Storage, Microgrid Effort In Puerto Rico
Sonnen, the German battery energy storage systems developer which has its U.S. headquarters in North Hollywood, said it has pledged to ship its systems into Puerto Rico to assist with recovery of that island's electrical grid. The company said it is launching a "Puerto Rico Energy Security Initiative" to help deploy microgrids in local communities. Western Digital Rolls Out 14TB Enterprise Hard Drive
Irvine-based Western Digital has rolled out another, gigantic hard drive, saying today that it has launched a new, 14TB enterprise class hard drive. Western Digital said the HGST Ultrastar Hs14 features shingled magnetic recording (SMR) technology, offers up 40 percent more capacity, and more than twice the sequential write performance of the drive's predecessor. WD said the drive has an MTBF of 2.5M hours, and is currently sampling to "select" OEMs. Pricing on the new drive was not announced.
