Falcon Computing Finds $8M For Big Data Acceleration

Falcon Computing Solutions, a developer of software specifically aimed at accelerating big-data applications with hardware--including both GPUs and FPGAs--has raised $8M in a funding round. The company, which has offices in Los Angeles but recently set up a headquarters in Santa Clara, said the funding was led by Intel Capital, and also included Baidu Ventures, Clear Ventures, SV Tech Ventures and Sierra Ventures. The company said it recently opened its new headquarters in Santa Clara, growing beyond its existing offices in Los Angeles and Beijing. The company is focused on acceleration of data processing, particularly in such areas as genomics, machine learning, and financial analytics. Falcon Computing's Chairman, co-founder, and Chief Scientific Advisor is Dr. Jason Kong, who is Chancellor's Professor and Director of the Center for Domain-Specific Computing at UCLA.
