Amazon Studios Sets Plans For Six Series Pilots

Amazon Studios, the Southern California-based effort by e-commerce giant to produce its own, original content for Amazon Instant Video, has just greenlighted six series pilots for production, the company announced this morning. Amazon Studios said the six, original comedy series are the first, pilot productions since it launched, and will be posted to Amazon Instant Video for free viewing; in an interesting twist on the selection process for an original series, Amazon said it will select which series Amazon Studios should ultimately produce based on viewer feedback. The pilots include Alpha House (written by Garry Trudeau of Doonesbury); Browsers, written by David Javerbaum (The Daily Show) and direct by Don Scardino (30 Rock); Dark Minions (Kevin Sussman, John Ross Bowie of Big Bang Theory); The Onion Presents: The News; Supanatural (Lily Sparks, Price Peterson and Ryan Sandoval); and Those Who Can't (Andrew Orvedahl, Adam Cayton-Holland and Benjamin Roy of Grawlix). Amazon said that so far, it has received more than 2,000 series ideas through Amazon Studios.
